a 3D bust of an imaginary doe
I made the doe as one of my first 3D models in ZBrush. I wanted to try translating my own drawn design into 3D and to manage to keep the animal’s proportions and believability. I drew inspiration from the doe itself, from the texture of plaster, from insects and from shells.
First I made a drawn design, and then modelled the figure in ZBrush from it. On this project I was learning the basics of 3D modelling, working with textured brushes and layers, and also how to keep the anatomy legible and the build of the body natural while stylising.
I then set the finished model into a 3D forest environment from PolyHaven in Blender. I tried out basic work with the camera, lighting, the atmosphere of the scene and rendering.
In making the figure I tried to work with an atmosphere of uncertainty. I wanted to create an animal that seems slightly unpleasant at first sight, because it is not clear whether it really is dangerous or whether it just looks different from what we are used to.
