Character design for a library event
I created a fantastical librarian climbing out of an old book for the library in Česká Třebová, as part of a Fantasy Days event for children aged 10 and over. I built the whole event around the story of an ancient librarian from the library in the Misty Ravine, who left the children a letter from the past with clues in it. Following those, the children gradually hunted down the recipe for a secret slime. I designed the librarian character and the whole story from beginning to end.
The librarian was first made as a 3D model in ZBrush intended for 3D printing. I wanted the children to be able to paint the printed librarian themselves and take it home as a memento of the event, and at the same time to make the whole story more memorable.
I then placed the librarian model into Blender, where I was learning to build a whole scene for the first time. The other objects in the scene come from PolyHaven; some I modified, recoloured or retextured. On this project I tried out working with the placement of objects, different kinds of lighting, fog and emission. Finally I also worked on the render settings and the various technical parameters affecting image quality and render speed. I rendered the scene from several different positions and looked for angles that would each create a slightly different atmosphere, from calmer to more dramatic.
